The following information is the result of considering the details of the large number of juicers/squeezers in the collection. I will also include some information on other Carlton Ware items.

Basemarks; also called backstamps, maker's marks. It should be noted that most publications and internet resources do not list the different basemarks in their entirety. They simply list 'key' types. For example the first example is usually only listed showing "MADE IN ENGLAND" in a much smaller font size (when compared with the script Carlton Ware). I will eventually list every variant that I find on Carlton Ware juicer (squeezers). Examples that show the registered design numbers will be listed with links to the source juicer. |

This base mark was used between 1925 & 1970 and is the most common backstamp on the 2 piece juicers. |

I have not been able to find any dating information on this specific backstamp, that is, with the large upper case "MADE IN ENGLAND". It has been indicated to me that it is considered to be a variation of the above script backstamp. These juicers date back a far as the 1930s, and were produced for some time.

Many Carlton Ware items were made in a variety of colours. The colour variations referred to here is when a change is something different. Eg. When the green Jaffa Lemon Squeezer, which is found in lime green and pale green. There is a very large number of Carlton Ware juicers (squeezers) in the collection used to come to the conclusions suggested here. Keeping in mind that some of these were produced over a long period of time there are, as you would expect, variations in the colour. However, some colour variations are significant enough for it to be listed as a different juicer. Some varitions can result from the glaze. The hand painted juicers often show variations, some of which, are very noticeable and somewhat significant. Examples showing the colour variations link to the source juicer. I have not seen any relationship with the various jug and the range of colours that the yellow juicer top come in. The yellow tops, both small and large, vary between pale cream and bright orange-yellow. I read on one web site about the peel texture finished jugs, which I found was originally listed as Jaffa Lemon Squeezer. Juicer jugs were 'peach' coloured inside and milk jugs were white inside. I will investigate this since it would not be beyond dealers or collectors to mix and match. I have large numbers in my collection, and I have seen over whelming numbers of other complete sets, with the white interior. I also have jugs with pale cream interiors. There is also some evidence that the mixing and matching may have occured when the juicers were original retailed. For me the coloured interior closely matches the cream coloured reamer top. It is worth noting that during World War 2 a lot of pottery was produced with less or no decoration due to war time restrictions. |
A good example of the colour variations would be these cottage juicers. |
