I have created this page to list my thoughts about art signed

"BURNETT"

I bought my first "BURNETT" painting in the year 2002.

In recent years I have been in search of  more 'BURNETT' paintings, haunting garage sales, antique, second hand and OP shops. Update (2017): While I still look I no longer feel a need to buy unless it is very cheap and in a good frame that can be recycled for other paintings.

My thoughts about art that is signed "BURNETT" are listed below;

Conclusions:
While these paintings signed "Burnett" display very well they are what they are and will never be worth their original cost (including framing). If you can buy one cheap they are an excellent decoration. They should be considered as an alternative to buying a framed print.
Important considerations:
Count all the "Burnett" paintings listed on the internet at any one time and there are 1000s. Keep checking and there will always be more new listings. Not an achievable output for an actual single artist. Look for identical paintings listed in different places at the same time, look at the sizes, look at the colours, look at the frames, etc. (See below). If you can buy the identical scene in multiple sizes and colours with all other aspects identical, it is not realistic to consider them as originals.

See below for the screen dumps of listings from a Chinese manufacturer
All the artists I know and know of paint a variety of subjects as they mature and their interests change. Their signature is their 'trademark' and does not vary a great deal for an established artist.
Finally

If you still believe that Burnett handpainted these paintings and all the paintings in the market place were produced by a single living artist, then there is not much more that can be said.

I have spent a great deal of time investigating art signed "BURNETT".

I am aware that a large amount of these same and similar scenes are now on the market with a multitude of attributions and sometimes with no signature. The signatures, while usually similar, vary significantly. I have one with a similar scene painted in the same style that is signed "H. Burenett.". This should make all the Caroline Burnett believers to reconsider their position.

I am not an art expert. I am very experienced at researching.

Some of my findings may not be correct. These are really my opinions formed after extensive research on the internet and the market place in Australia.

I have seen these signed paintings, new and framed, at retail markets. (including Parklea and Fairfield markets in Sydney, 2010)

In 2017 there was a facebook page set up for the the Artist Caroline Burnett. It has links to a web page that is 'Under contruction' (Nov. 2017) and has NOTHING except advertising links. Possibly another seller attemping to attribute this Chinese Facory art to an artist that may NEVER have existed, or NEVER painted in this style. I once found a totally different style of painting attributed to a "Caroline Burnet".
It is actually very difficult to find any reference to the actual American artist Caroline Burnett as the web is proliferated with sites recirculating the false attribution because they found the information on several other sites. This does not make the attribution correct.
I have never found a reliable source that lists Caroline Burnett painting this style. I have read that Who Was Who in American Art, Vol. 1 lists her as living in and painting Paris streetscapes. I have sighted a copy of the 1985 Who Was Who in American Art (Peter Hastings Falk) where she is referenced as "Burnett, Caroline C. Paris France Member: SBA". My memory is that those paintings attributed to her that I saw years ago were not even close to this style. Importantly, in Who's Who in American Art she is not listed in the 1st Edition (1959) nor the 15th Edition (1970) or the 22th Edition (1986), Etc. The electronic version of these books can be read on https://archive.org
I have seen identical paintings signed by a different artist listed on the Chinese factory websites. Surely this should be considered conclusive.
Many of the current Burnett paintings are 'Fantasy' scenes. The 21st century 'Burnett' paintings are available in new styles and colours.
I have never seen or been aware of a Burnett print. All the work signed "Burnett" has a handpainted textured finish.

I bought my 1st 'Burnett' painting in Tamworth, Australia, in 2002. As I usually did I researched the artist and found chaos. Many of the early references I found are no longer available.

I continued collecting paintings in this style signed "BURNETT" for my research.

Other images, details and links to other web sites will be added or updated from time to time. This update on July 12, 2018

I am confident that this is not by "Carolyn Burnett". While this artist is listed (See next link), there is very little known about this person. Did she ever exist? Not according to all but one of the complete lists of USA artists that I have been able to find.
Link still available (2017)
The main contender? A possible candidate? Unlikely
This site now attributes the known Chinese factory paintings to her. (2017)
According to all searches for American artists, while according to one, and only one publication, she existed. Although this is still possibly a story developed to sell the art with massive markups. You are able to 'suggest' artists to many of the artist databases. An artist capable of this art would be recorded somewhere in other databases.
"Carolyn C Burnett" "Carolyn C Burnett"
The web is prolifferated with sites recirculating the false attribution of these Chinese factory paintings to "Carolyn C Burnett" even though the only possible artist I have ever found with that name did not paint in this style. In 2017 a Facebook page was established called "Artist Caroline Burnett" and it attributes these Paris street scapes to her. The page also links to a site that is 'Under contruction' (Nov. 2017) and has nothing except advertising links. It will be interesting to see any changes

eBay Search

The search above is for "burnett painting paris" + Worldwide
Many claim to be by Carolyn Burnett or Caroline Burnett. Probably the result of finding the and igoring all other less profitable results. These claims are attributed to many paintings with distintly different signatures. Real artists do not vary their signature very much.
